Default Toshiba's 3rd generation HD DVD players new MSRP?

I know since the news at CES player sales have gone down on HD DVD, but amazon.com is listing new MSRP for all 3rd gen Toshiba players. After this I would like to see public news about Uni and Paramount new releases.

A3 new MSRP $149.99
A30 new MSRP $199.99
A35 new MSRP $299.99

I prolly buy an A35.

Default $75.00 Price Cut

Yep. I ordered my A30 from Amazon on Dec. 31st for $248. Now Amazon's price for the same unit is $172. That's a price cut of $75. I don't feel bad though. I got 5 free dvds immediately. Two (300 & Bourne Identity) in the box, and three from Amazon (I picked 2001, Adv. of Robin Hood, and Carlito's Way). Each of those is a $19.95 disc, so in the end I'm only out $15. Plus I've got 5 free on the way from Toshiba. So - still a fantastic deal! I love my A30 - and can't get enough of watching HD Dvds. I've been up till midnight every night for the last week watching old favorites for the "first time" on HD. I'm lovin' it!

If I were you I would be calling amazon right away and claim the difference to be refunded since they have that policy in effect.

Thanks for pointing this out! I didn't know amazon had that policy. The price difference is "techinically" a little less. The $172 price is offered by an outside source selling on amazon. Amazon's price is actually $198. Still, that's 50 bucks. I sent a refund request to amazon. Will see how they respond. Thanks again!

I think the prices are changing hourly! Right now the A3 is $147.33, but last night it was $139.99. Apparently, when you posted this morning, it was $149.99. That's three prices in less than 24 hours!

What I meant was not the sale price but the actual MSRP listed on amazon. I know they are selling cheaper than the price I listed.

Amazon just issued me a $40 credit back on my credit card to account for the price drop. (I bought mine 10 days ago.)

Question is...what does this mean? Is this an effort on Toshiba's part to boost sales and, in the long run, generate support for the HD format? Or, is this a panic response - retailers quickly dumping their stock of HD players before it's "too late"?

I think is part of Toshiba's plan to generate more stand alone sales and show to the press that HD DVD still leads the SA market. Toshiba still has an exclusive support from Paramount and Universal and that is a lot of movies.
