Default last, desperate attempt: A35 and Onkyo 605

So I just got an A35 to go with my onkyo 605 so that I could bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD to the receiver. I just spent over an hour on the phone (after waiting 45 min) with a CR from onkyo and what he determined was the problem is either with the receiver or the HD-DVD player (very helpful information). He said I either had to swap out the HD-DVD player (which is difficult to do as I bought it online) or take/send the receiver to a service center that is 90 miles away. I don't like either option, so I'm hoping someone here can tell me how to fix the problem. Long story short:

I can't get DD+, TrueHD, or DTS-HD to bitstream. I can get the player to send PCM, though. My settings on the HD-A35 are:

Bitstream
Auto
ON
OFF
OFF
5.1.

Please help me!

There's a mode called "Direct Audio Out" or something that needs to be turned on. Also just to make sure...I'm not calling you dumb but sometimes these things happen...you are using an HDMI cable correct?

Also if you don't mind could you PM me and let me know how much of an audio difference there is when you get it working? I'm waiting on Amazon to get them back in stock to order one.

As I know that's correct. But if I'm correct, you need to set the "HDMI output mode" (or something like this) to "Auto". This should than work.

If you than don't hear anything:
The onkyo receiver has somewhere the option "HDMI Output". As I know should this be set to "False" or so.

In a few days I will be back at home, so that I could tell it to you for sure, if nobody can help you until than

I really hate to deter anyone from this site but you might wanna check out avsforum. They usually have more hardware specific info that could help you diagnose your troubles.

BUT.....

You gotta come right back here. I best not see 1 post from you over there!

vertigo, could you please check if you need a firmware-update for your onkyo receiver?:

(You have just to give in your S/N)

And please check out this settings on your HD DVD player:
PCM
Auto
On
Off
Off
5.1

(Maybe the first setting, PCM, is necessary)
Thats all for the moment I could remember/find

Hmmm. In reading through the thread, all I can think of is what discs have you tried? On some older discs - like Hapopy Feet - I couldn't get TrueHD to bitstream. But if you have Transformers or Bourne Ultimatum, you should get DD+ & TrueHD to bitstream, respectively.

EDIT: A second thought - try putting the HDMI from the A35 in the other HDMI input on the 605, might have a bad connection.
