Default A35 or XA2

Whats the difference?

The main feature i'm looking for is 1080p, Dolby TrueHD bitstream, and DTS Master Audio bitstream all through HDMI

Both players have all those features, but the A35 costs less. But, the XA2 also has the Reon video processor which most people agree does a better job of upconverting standard DVDs, if that is an important consideration to you.

I looked at both players in October, and I went with the A35 as upconverting was not very important to me. I'm very pleased with the A35, it was an upgrade from my 1st gen XA1.

Thanks,

I have the 360 add on as my main HD DVD player out of my 360 elite via hdmi. Having just picked up the Onkyo 705 receiver, my new interest is to have the ability to play the lossless audio codecs.

With that being said, I don't necessarily "NEED" a new HD DVD player, I'm just looking at finding a justification to tell my fiance as to why I want to buy a new one!!

I'm thinking of buying the samsung 5000 dual player once it is confirmed that it can pass truehd and dts ma bitstream over hdmi. (I had one preordered but recently cancelled, as I don't particularly need it right away and can wait til the kinks are ironed out)

I was originally considering the Samsung dual player. But with all the issues* with their players, I'm a little leery of them. I picked up the A35 in October and Panasonic BD-30 in early November for about the same price combined as the Samsung, and glad I did.

* Issues: The delay in firmware for the 1200 to enable playback of the new Fox & Disney titles, high return rate on the 1400.

my new a35 just got delivered 15 min ago. i can't wait to get home to try it out!!!

as for your fiance:

i was running optical from my a2 to my old receiver, got my 605 and hooked it up with hdmi. my ex-girlfriend (who is in no way an audiophile) was said wow just from listening to the first 30 seconds of transformers with the dd+ transfer. tell her it will sound as good or better than movie theaters (but that may just be that my theaters have crappy sound-and when i saw spiderman 3 the whole left side wasn't on). tell her it will look better to guests putting the disc in a hd-dvd standalone than a video game. also, it will be a helluva lot quiter than a 360.

Does the A35 take a minute to load up? I bought the XA2 a few months ago and was shocked it took so long to start up. I have to admit I love my XA2. It's a very sexy machine.

My A35 needs about 40s to load up (without a disc ). With a disc it needs also about a minute.

Here's the advantages of the XA2 over the A35.
1. Better SD DVD up-converted image quality.
2. Better 1080p 60fps image quality.
3. RS232 bi-directional for interface with control systems.
4. Better build quality.
5. Nicer remote control.
