Default Just picked up an XA2 for $150!

I was doing some last minute christmas shopping at Best Buy tonight when I spotted a lonely HD-XA2 sitting on the checkout counter in the home theater department. The price tag: $149.99! Of course it's open box, no remote, manual, etc. But I knew my HD-A1 remote is compatible, not to mention I use my Harmony for everything. Best part is I have until Jan 31 to return it incase there ends up being anything wrong with it. I hooked it up, and it seems mint. I've thrown it both an HD DVD and a regular DVD, it seems perfect.

Now I've heard about the Reon chip and how great the XA2 is at upconverting... but I assumed we were talking about minute differences. I just watched part of the Lost pilot which I just watched on my HD-A1 yesterday, and WOW! It is light years better. For the first time in my life I actually thought, why am I paying all this extra money for HDM? Then I snapped back to reality, and realized its not as good as HD... but clearly pushing the limit to what standard DVD can do.

The biggest dilemma I have is none of my equipment can really take advantage of the XA2 features over the A1 (except upconverting, of course). I have a 1080i tv, an no HDMI receiver. Although I may be crazy, to my ear the analog 5.1 audio on the XA2 so far sounds better then the analog on the A1. Perhaps it's just the bass level, but I set it up identical to my A1.

Moral of the story: keep your eye peeled for open box/demo models. You may just snag yourself a deal.

Man, what a deal. Now, register it with Toshiba and email them for a remote replacement. I told them my backlight don't work so they sent me one less than 7 days from my notifying them. What an excellent customer support.

What a deal. Still would look great with your analog 1080i HDTV.

NICE! I have been saying for months to grab an X-A2 while they are still hanging around. It is by far the Best HD-DVD player out there. I got mine for $250 w/Remote open Box at BB, and am continually amazed by upcvonversion.
BB does not undertand or care about the Quality of this player, they just want to get rid of it. Go For it! And I am only running 720P from a projector!

I finally found an XA2 at BB. Open box, no box and no remote. They wanted $370 for it! How did you guys get it for $150 and $250 respectively? Did you guys have to talk them down? I really want an XA2, but with no box and remote, I couldn't bring myself to purchase at that price point. Any tips appreciated!
