Default Toshiba HD-A2 Upconversion- "upconversion prohibited"

So everytime I try to watch a store bought dvd on my A2 it says it cannot play the content in 1080i so it shows it in 480p. I have it connected to a Vizio through HDMI. What am I doing wrong?

What TV do you have? Does it accept 1080i? Will it upconvert to 720p?

my A3 displays the same message but then my tv says it is receiving a 1080i output fron the player, and i'm watching an excellent upconverted picture. this is the first time i watch upconversion so i would like to know how is the A3 rated regarding its upconversion performance. thanks for letting me know.

I have the A2 as well and I noticed that it says 480p on the player. When I get home tonight, I will pop in a DVD and see what the TV says it is receiving.

The first time I've noticed this was recently when I put in Resident Evil-Extinction. I've watched other movies and never had a message about not being able to upconvert.
I figured it had something to do with Resident Evil being a Sony disc. I've watched standard Fox discs (Die Hard-28 Weeks Later) and never got that message.

I think you may have to use HDMI on the A2 to upconvert. I'm no rocket scientist, but it fixed my problem.

Maybe your HDMI cable is bad? Could it be possible that not having a 1.3 certified HDMI cable could mess you up?

My A2 is connected via HDMI and I still have the issue--again, I noticed it on one DVD (Res Evil-Extinction--put out by Sony). I don't have issues with other DVD's. I believe it's a DVD issue. That is, it's the DVD that is not permitting the upconversion. Just my theory.

Upconversion can only be used with an HDMI cable for clarification. Sorry about your problem but the movie isn't really anything special anyways. You're not missing too much.

Well guys I'm using an HDMI and it is the same cable I use for my PS3. I have no problems upconverting with the PS3 but the A2 still flags "high def output prohibited"
