Sorry to say this to you but your HD DVD has NOT problems at all. However in order to get High Bit Rate audio from your player you are going to have to upgrade to the A35 since that is the player that will support it along with the XA2. If you are on time please exchange it.

Is a Setup issue, please do this:

Digital HDMI Out set to Auto; Digital Direct Audio Mode set to On:
Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital D+, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, and DTS-HD are output as bitstreams. Sub-audio for special features and menu sounds are disabled.

@ Charolin...don't give him/her false information.

Dolby Digital Plus and TrueHD can only be internally decoded by the A-30 and sent as PCM. Set your HDMI out to auto and then just select the TrueHD track when you're movie starts. After a few seconds hit the display button on your A-30 remote to make sure the audio says TrueHD.

Sorry but if you want the 605 to decode the DD+/TrueHD for you you'll have to upgrade to the HD-A35.

Hope that helps!

The player is outputting TrueHD, it's just sent out to the receiver as Lossless PCM. I have the Onkyo 705 and this setup sounds man-tastic. No matter what your receiver says, it still is TrueHD.
