A-35 has analog audio outs (5.1) and does HBR streaming via HDMI.

Will the A-30 do True Dobly and DTS-HD through HDMI correctly?

The A30 - and all Toshiba players - can decode Dolby TrueHD 5.1 internally, and output the resulting PCM through any version of HDMI. No HD DVD - or Blu-ray - player is currently capable of decoding DTS-HD MA internally. Currently, the only option for hearing DTS-HD MA in full resolution is with the A35 HBR bitstreaming it to an HDMI 1.3 receiver with DTA-HD MA decoding. Like the Onkyo 605 & 805 receivers.

this is not completly true as the new onkyo and the HD-XA2 (with the latest firmware 2.7) will also HBR bitstream. The Later option can be found for less than the A35 (470 on amazon) and both feature the renon deinterlacer chip.

Yes; I didn't mean to slight the XA2 & Onkyo 805 - they are both capable of HBR bitstream. I was just thinking in the context of the OP's question of the differences between A30 & A35.

no worries, sorry if I sounded deffensive on the issue. figured he should know the alternatives to the 35 ( especialy considering the fact that the xa2 can be had at a price point between those of the 30 and 35)

No worries here, either.

But, where can you get an XA for between the price points of an A30 & A35? I upgraded from an XA1 a few weeks ago and gave the XA2 lengthy consideration, but I don't watch much standard DVD any more so the Reon processor was that important to me, and I got my A35 from Amazon for just under $400, while they wanted $469 for the XA2, and it's back up over $500 now.

The way I look at it, the A35 is best way to future proof your system, the A30 is a great player, but its good to know you won't have to upgrade for a long long time and that piece mind justifies a hundred dollar difference IMO
