The specs state that but someone on the other forum said it plays dvd+r discs. Can anyone else verify that?

I have no idea, but if you never get an answer and JUST HAVE to know, go to www.AVSforum.com and join there (free) and post this question over there in the HD-DVD hardware section, and I'm certain you will get an answer.

Mine plays DVD+R and DVD-R. I have many of, um, "recorded stuff" on both formats.

Yes, I've played both + and - on mine.

And it also plays burned CDs. My older regular Toshiba DVD player wouldn't play any burned music discs--something about the type of laser.
