Default Going purple....Want to add HD-DVD, G2 machines or G3??

I want to go neutral. I've currently got a PS3 for Blu-ray and I'd like to get a HD-DVD player as there are movies I don't want to wait on, on that side of the fence as well.

I'm only 720P capable at the moment, but not looking to replace the set yet, so 1080P capability is nice, but not a deal breaker. I also don't have a HDMI receiver/amp yet, but would consider an upgrade in that department.

I see the prices dropping on the G2 machines and thought it might be a good time to snatch something up. I'm sure the G3's will be discounted this holiday season and I'm wondering if I should go that route.

Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks guys......

I love my HD-A2. It's only $227 on amazon w/ no tax or shipping. A steal imo.

Looks and sounds just as good as my ps3.

Check the HD DVD Bargains. You should find one for barely under $200, if not hold back & the deal will come back soon.

We started with the A2 which developed a minor audio problem, so I upgraded it to the A20 when I took it back. While the A2 was perfectly fine, the A20 had a noticeably better upconversion with SD DVD's since it has the ABT1018 chip in it. Some reviews say it may be even better than the XA2 in that regard.

If money isn't a big problem I would go with the A20, then 1080P/24 is covered in the future if you upgrade your set. Otherwise the A2 is no slouch by any means and a new set would convert the signal to 1080P anyway.
