Default HD-A2 Analog true-hd question

I was reading that you can get TrueHD audio through the analog output of the player, but on the back there is only left and right analog outputs, does this mean that it'll just be 2 channel truehd? How do you go about get 5.1 truehd out of the analog outputs? Thanks!

The HD-AX2 has 5.1 analog outputs which the A2 doesn't have. If you want to listen to lossless audio you'll need to use the digital HDMI sockets

The A2 only has stereo analog outputs. To output a TrueHD 5.1 track you must use HDMI. The HD-XA2 and HD-A35 have 5.1 analog outputs.

To get True HD over HDMI you must have a receiver with HDMI 1.3 and True-HD decoding. Let the player decode the True-HD to PCM. I don't have an A2, but I presume there's a menu system similar to the XA2 under Audio formats to set PCM as your output. At the current time, I'm only aware of the new Onkyo receivers having this capability.

Doh! I forgot to add you do need to send PCM over HDMI to your receiver. You can't use PCM over TOSKLINK or RCA cable, it downsamples.

Actually, HDMI 1.1 is all that is needed. See this thread for details: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=738511

Yes.... :-)

Use PCM for the decoded True HD stream to the receiver. No need for HDMI 1.3. The decoding occurs in the player, DA conversion in the receiver. Must use HDMI to get the full bandwidth PCM, though, per my note.
