Default Onkyo HD-DVD Player Details!

Well here's info regarding this player for those interested. I'm sure there is other info already on here, but this says it's updated, so maybe this is a little more complete. It's a pricey machine for sure, but nice to finally have a nice alternative to Toshiba. (not that the Toshiba's aren't just fine)

It looks like it is going to be an awesome player! I'm a little confused by the audio bit. Does it decode DTS-HD MA internally & send it as pcm to the amp?

I don't think it decodes DTS-HD Master Audio or High Resolution Audio but sends the encoded bitstream via HDMI 1.3 to your receiver to decode. It decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS (core) to PCM for sending to your receiver. If you want to hear the DTS-HD versions you need a receiver with a HDMI 1.3 input and DTS-HD decoding

you have to pair two hdmi 1.3 compliant devices to get the "complete" DTS hd-MA. So with this player you have piece 1. Then you obviously have to get the 1.3 receiver. This player outputs the bitstream which the lower end Toshiba's do not do.

I really wish they'd put all the decoding in the players. I don't have a 1.3 receiver. It looks like a nice player though.

I really want this player but $900 is just crazy! $500 and I'll buy it.

Does Amazon only average 30% off on software or is that also their markdown on hardware? For $600 I'd be very tempted.

I can't afford to buy a new receiver again so I hope one day they will release HD DVD player with built-in DTS HD decorder.

What's the TrueHD 5.1 ch? Does this mean the player can't decode TrueHD 6.1? But so far I haven't seen any HD DVD in TrueHD in 6.1

Wow thats a nice player but that price is rough. I think I'll wait a while to get it or to see if a better player comes out for around the same price or hopefully less.

edit- Pchin nice to see someone kickin' old school with Macorss (Max)
