I need the player to play at least 1080i. I also want to be able to use upscaling.

That's about it I guess. I'm a big movie fan and it looks like Microsoft are going to keep buying off studios to support HD only, so I want to be able to get my favourite films.

I understand that you can play US HD-DVD discs but that R1 standard DVDs wont play.

I need to place my order today. Its going to cost around 160. Is anyone strongly opposed to me getting the E1?

I don't own a Hd dvdplayer yet, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

If you have a tv that supports 1080p/24hz input, I would not buy the HD E1. If you don't it is likely all you need & apparantly a great player!
All the best with your purchase!

At 160 - just buy it! I'm very pleased with the HD-E1.

I've noticed that on the Toshiba UK website, that model isn't listed. Is that because its an older, discontinued model or is it a newer model and the site hasn't been updated? The 3 models on the site are the XE1 and two EP models.
