Default A2 vs. the A3--Is it worth it?

Sorry fellas,

I know there have probably been a few threads on this already, but I am going to purchase a standalone and I see the A2 on amazon for $236 and 7 free movies (2 from amazon and 5 free rebate) and I just keep asking myself is it worth it to wait for the A3? I will end up getting the same amount of movies and I don't have to wait for a player with nearly the same specs. I'm really not sure what the differences will be between the two, as far as specs go.

I don't think there is no difference between the A2 and A3 except for the look of the player.

While looking at both today I noticed the A2 is 1080i, and the A3 was advertising 1080P.

The A3 is 1080i only, the A30 is 1080p

I say neither are worth it. My suggestion: get the A35. you'll get more investment out of it and you won't even think about upgrading players in 6 months (like some A2 buyers out there)

It's not worth it? Not everyone needs the extra features of the A35(1080p + 5.1 analog outs etc etc) and some people don't want to pay that much to enjoy HD DVD. It wouldn't be worth buying an A35 if you only have a 720p native display TV and if you don't plan on upgrading in the near future. That's the beauty of the 3 different players (A3, A30, A35) to meet the consumer's needs and budget.

To answer briskier105's questions... The A2 and A3 will be very similar in terms of specs, with some minor improvements like slightly faster disc loading times and the piano-black finish on the exterior. Specs aside, the A3 (along with the A30 and A35) also includes 2 free movies packed in the box ( 300 + Bourne Identity )

Great post. I have no need for a 1080p machine right now when mine is only 720p. Its a great display and, although, I would like to go bigger, I just don't see 1080p in my near future. To me, (and I emphasize that) its just not worth the cost difference in terms of players and TV's.

Oh and I completely forgot about the faster boot times. It may just be worth it to wait for that reason alone.

I timed my A30 the other day. If the player is on, it takes about 12 seconds to load a disc. Player off to disc loaded is about a minute.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy either the A2 or the A3...they are virtually the same player save a few cosmetic changes. I've got the A2 right now and haven't had any issues. I've been very happy and can highly recommend it. I would say get whichever one is avail at the best price. Happy hunting.

I still think it may be a toss up considering the prices. A2 @ $236 and the A3 at $299 pre-ordered. Assuming that the A3 price is accurate on Amazon.com. It still may come down.
