Default 2nd gen hd dvd players discontinued??

Went to BB yesterday and asked if they had the new 3rd gen hd dvd players in yet. The sales guy told me they had one left(A30). I asked him if he knew if and when the 2nd gen players might be discounted or reduced in price soon. The guy told me that they pulled the remaining 2nd gen players and were being discontinued. The only 2nd gen player they had was the demo. Anybody seen or heard the same from BB or other retailers?? I thought they would reduce the price to get rid of the 2nd gen players not pull them!!! I was a bit surprised that BB did this.

I havent heard that but i havent asked. Im not suprised, dont know why they wouldnt drop the price. just to make money on them they are really the same players just not as big compared to the newer gen. Maybe they know that would rip the customers off haha!

I noticed at best buy they just ganked the old nanos and ipods off the shelf and only the new ones are available now.. Think its the specialty electronics store that like to do that..

Same thing at my BB today. They had 3 A-30s in stock, showing a price tag and demo for the A-20, but no second generation machines on the shelf.

Since hd is such a niche thing i'm sure they're unwilling to use up shelf space for a lot of models.

We haven't got the 3rd-Gen models in at my Circuit City yet, so we still have the 2nd-Gens. But I can expect to see this happening once we do get them in, cause it has happened to every HD DVD and Blu-ray player we've carried so far: once the newer model from the company comes out, we no longer order any more of the previous model and we sell off the display unit as an discounted open box item.

Why do you need to worry about 2nd gen hd player is being discountinued?
Who cares about it once 3rd gen comes out in the next couple months............

1) Many people would prefer to get an older player at a discounted price instead of a brand new one at full price, BECAUSE...

2) The top of the line 3rd generation player is not necessarily a better machine than the the top of the line 2nd generation player.

Default Yes they are.........

I believe BB started to clear out the 2nd generation players two weeks ago. I picked up a brand new HD-A30 on clearance at the local BB for $299. The A2 was being cleared out for $249. The XA2 was on clearance for $499. There was one left and I was thinking of picking it up too at the time. But I didn't.......... Went back a few days later and it was gone. Checked all local BB stores and none of them have any more in stock. Today, I did find a store with two displays available for purchase. Since there's no UPC for the 5 free discs, I was able to get the manager to lower the price down to $399 for the XA2. Coupled with $100 reward zone certificate, I walked out of the store with the XA2 that is in excellent condition for $299. I think I did good....... ;-)
