Default Need your opinions/help in buying an HD-DVD player

Hi!

I would very much appreciate to get some help from you guys in getting a new player. I have difficulties to decide which one to get and i hope to find some help here. I'm going to buy a Samsung 52"LED-LCD as soon it's out here in Germany and need a new player to go with it, as i'm thinking about giving my Xbox add-on to my nephews.

I've been having difficulties to decide with which one to go with, especially since the new Toshiba players are out. I've been thinking about the XA2, A35 and the Onkyo HD-805. Could also maybe even consider the Samsung BD-UP5000, only if the HD-DVD player is good. I hear Reon often, so i suppose that's what to get.

Is the price difference justified between the XA2 and the Onkyo? What are the real differences? I don't really need something over the top, but i usually get a bit more expensive stuff, as i really try to avoid buying crap, thus don't mind paying a bit more.

I have a Harmann Kardon AVS4500 with Bose Acoustimass 10 that all of this would be connected to.

Thanks for any help!

I am not familiar with the non Toshiba Players, but I would recommend probably the A30 Toshiba HD DVD. If you have a tv that has HDMI 1.3 and 7.0 dolby then get the A35 if you want to drop the bucks but really the only difference... Both will work fine. I assume the TV you are purchasing is 1080p

My Harmann/Kardon does only 5.1, but it might be updated to something better, saw a nice Onkyo the other day, i think it ws the TX-SR805 if i remember correct, and it supports 7.1. But i've also understod that there has to be movies too that are in 7.1, to be able to fully enjoy 7.1 sound, or at least that's what the salesguy said when i bought my H/K, some 3-4 years ago, dunno

The TV i'm planning to get is (Samsung LE-52F96BD) has HDMI 1.3 and full HD.

Thanks guys for your replies, it always helps!

I wouldn't buy the A2 after reading about all the headaches people in this forum seem to have with them.

Yeah, i'm not really interested in the 2nd generation players anyways, except maybe for the XA2.
