Default Question

I have a questions. I don't currently own a High Def Player but im planning on getting one soon. From what I've heard they can connect to your Internet connection to download updates,e tc. My questions is do you think it would be possible if HD DVD wins the format war that they coudl come out with some sort of update that could be downloaded onto the player to be able to read Blu Ray Discs since they have the same laser?

Whilst they both use blue lasers as opposed to red lasers, I think it would be wrong to assume that they are the same (although I do not know the technicalities).

Therefore a basic answer to your question is no. I would imagine it would take a hardware modification for that to happen.

The aperatures of lasers used for Blu-Ray and HD DVD are different. It's not a simple matter of downloading a firmware to change that. Hardware has to be modified.

Indeed. I do love the ability to change the firmware of equipment but it does have its limitations!

Good points! Mancini316, Tejstar, Overseer

Both are blue light, one laser format reads at the top surface, the other reads a little deeper.
