Default HD A30 remote sucks

Just picked up the A30 and have to say it looks amazing. My only complaint is the crappy remote they give you. The remote doesn't have a function to control my tv sound. I spent $400 on a player that comes with a remote that doesn't control my tv. Its not big of deal, its just the principle of the matter.

I hate the HD-A2 remote as well. play, stop, fastforward buttons are all very tiny and too close together.

Get a Harmony remote. They're worth it. Plus, when you add new stuff, you won't care how awful the remote that comes with whatever you bought is.

Yeah i bought a harmony remote awhile back and it's pretty much replaced all my others.
You can program it to turn on everything you're going to use to play a movie with one push of a button.
It has a wonderful backlighting system that even has a motion sensor so it lights up when you get near it.
Well, unless mine's just haunted.

I agree with the Harmony remotes doing it all excellently.

I must say that the A20 & A30 remotes are much better than the remote for the XA2. I swear that giant, unfriendly remote looks like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

^ i like the xa2 remote way better than the a20 remote. the a20 remote felt so cheap and flimsy. i'd rather have my backlit, heavy xa2 remote over the a20 one

I actually like the heavy, backlit remote that came with my XA1. Easy to see & use the buttons. Also useful in warning me the bass is too loud when the lights come on from the vibration. Although I haven't had the occasion to test it yet, I think it should also be useful as an early earthquake warning system.

But, it's going into early retirement if I can find a way to get that Start Trek Phaser remote without having to buy a new player.

Harmony and Universal Remote are probably 2 of the most popular choices out there for aftermarket remotes. They really are well worth the investment in my opinion. If I were buying one today it would probably be the Harmony one you can get at Costco for $120, but currently I have Universal Remotes RF20 and have felt that it is a very nice fairly affordable product.

This site Remote Central has some pretty good reviews on many popular brands of remotes.
