The only differences between the XA2 and A-35 are the XA2 is probably the best upconverting dvd player on the market (A-35 has yet to be tested though, still it doesn't have the Reon chip) and the A-35 looks better IMHO. The XA2 just recieved it's 24fps update and the bitstream audio update should come out soon. Hope that helps.

I would get the XA2. Love the player and now that it has the 1080p 24fps it is one solid player!

Just get the HD-A35. Sure it's another 50 dollars more than the HD-XA2 you're getting, but think it's sealed and you wont have to worry about it possibly being a fluke since it was opened-box. Dont be so sure about the quality of it just cuz you were assured by the person who sold it to you by mouth. That's exactly why I stopped buying on ebay. "It works perfectly my eye"

The HD-A35 supports Deep Color Graphics which provides a greater spectrum of colors that are provided as opposed to the rest of the Toshiba HD-DVD players. It may not have the reon HQV upconverting chip, but do you really have that big a DVD collection you're still gonna use? It also decodes the same audio formats you've requested I believe. It is so good (minus the reon HQV chip) it will become the new Toshiba flagship HD-DVD player.

That's just me though........... You can make whatever decision you want. Hell, I am so anxious to get this darn HD-A35, I was ready to get the HD-A30 when I saw it was in stock at my local best buy. Then I was like, "Uhm...... I'll wait. Dangit! I want the A35 right now!" That's how anxious I am to get the HD-A35 too, really. I just bought 7 HD-DVDs thinking the HD-A35 will come out soon and they're just sitting on my shelf pretty right now as I wait.

So the whole thang is up to you my friend.......

yeah i decided to wait for the hd-a35 spoke to toshiba and they really dont think the hdxa2 will get a firware update for the lossless audio and thats important to me. or i might go for the new samsung dual format player when it comes out seems like thats gonna be a nice player not sure wich one yet. only thing that scares me is the samsung dual player might be buggy and not support all the features for both formats.

The XA2 also does deep color. IMHO, it's the better box for the $, the Reon chip is a big differentiation point.

Also, deep color is, for the time being, total marketing fluff, as ALL content is mastered in RGB using 8 bits per channel. So having "deep color" either means you need interpolotion to "fill in the color blanks" (not available from anyone, to my knowledge), or a new source TBD that actually has more than the 24 bit color space currently used by HD DVD.
