Default Should I buy an A20?

Hey guys, I found out today my local Costco has the A20 on sale for 250... now I've been meaning to get a new player for some time now as I can't use my add-on drive on my 360 (sold my 360 back in July), and with a buttload of HD-DVD discs on pre-order from Amazon... I'd really like to have something to play them on (I've already recieved Heroes, and I took advantage of the buy 2 get one free offer on Amazon a few weeks back).

I'm curious, does the A20 have 1080p and HDMI 1.3 support? Should I go ahead? Thanks.

At that price, I would most likely go for it. I'm in the same boat and need a new player, but I think the a30 is calling my name.

I really do want one ASAP, since I need to watch heroes before the new season; plus I know someone who works at Costco... and if he can get me one at an employee price, that's even better.

the reason people are selling these cheap is because gen 3 players are out or coming very soon, I would get an A30 screw the old stuff.

I don't care for A3s, A30s or XA3s. I don't see a massive upgrade to them... and I'm not paying a higher price if I can get an A20 for cheap... I can still get HD audio and 1080p from them...

yes I agree having read the reviews on the 3rd gen models. There isnt really any difference with the A30 to the A20 other than size of the player. The A35 is the only one with actual upgrades other than the size of the player being HDMI 1.3

I would buy the A20 thats pretty good price

Another vote for going with the A20, the A30 really doesnt add anything, If your going to wait only the A35 is an upgrade. For that price nail it.

Hey Indy are you sure Costco is selling the A20 for 250? Because I just went on costco.com and it's showing the A2C (costco's A2) for 250...

Okay you said you wanna buy an HD-DVD player that is a good price to get, right? You also said you want one right now? You sound just like me. I want an HD-DVD player right now so bad I can taste it, really. But the HD-A35, which is what I really want so bad, is already on the Toshiba website and I think it'll be starting to be sold any week now so I'm gonna wait. Plus it wouldn't hurt to save a little money this time. I even said at a point I'm gonna blow an entire paycheck on the HD-A35 + A new HDMI cable + all the movies I've wanted to see from Warner, Universal, Dreamworks, and Paramount on HD-DVD.

See, average discount off of a 250 dollar player for an employee roughly is about 50 dollars. So that makes that player with the discount roughly 200 dollars. You sure you dont wanna spend an extra hundred for improved graphics and firmware and whatnot? The HD-A30 is gonna be 399.99 and roughly with the employee discount your friend should have is about 90 bucks off so that's just a pinch above 100 dollars more.

If you really aren't scientifical about specs and whatnot and really aren't devout into graphics, dont get the HD-XA2. The cheapest you can get it is like 550 dollars in the cheapest bargain places. Thats if you want the Reon Constructed HQV processor upscaling chip and all that jazz. The A20 is also an excellent choice. It has 1080p output and decodes TrueHD by Dolby audio. So I guess you can get that but with me, I dont mind spending the extra 200 dollars.

Actually I was even thinking about getting the duo player the Samsung BD-UP5000. But our friends here convinced me to just stick to the HD-DVD player I was originally gonna get. Let's just hope they weren't trying to convince me to help their cause to help keep HD-DVD alive cuz both ways, I still am.

Just my 2 (million) cents partner. Okay, enjoy your new HD-A20. It really is a great player nontheless for a cheap price. Actually if you wait til the HD-A30 and the HD-A35 come out, the A20 should be even cheaper than it already is. Should go down to like 199.99 even. How about that? Or are you really really in the need for one NOW NOW NOW?
