Default 1080i out from Component Output on HD-A2?

I looked on the Toshiba website and all it says is that the up conversion is done via HDMI. It makes no reference what HD signals can be outputed from the component connection. My television (Hitachi 51F500) has a DVI input, but it isn't a true digital and it is not HDCP compliant so I use the component connections and watch all my HD content from my dish in 1080i.
I am going to wait a year or two for a reasonably priced 1080P monitor, so until then, I am stuck using component connections (which looks fine to me).

Is the HD-A2 the best solution for my system or would the xbox 260 and the add on be better?

Existing System
Denon AVR-2802
Hitachi 51F500
Energy Speakers
Bell 9150 HD PNR
Denon DVD 1920

If your TV supports RGB and you really want to watch upscaled DVDs then the XBox 360 might be the way to go, but you wouldn't be able to output TrueHD or DD+ to your receiver from HD DVDs.

The CSS on DVDs prevent upscaling over component outputs (unless your player is hacked).

With the HD-A2 you won't be getting upscaled DVDs, but at least you'll be getting TrueHD/DD+ via the analog outputs to your receiver.

Just depends how important upscaled DVDs are to you.

Thanks for the responce. After some more research, it looks like a new TV is in order because mine is not HDCP compliant. That is too bad.

Your TV is HDCP compliant, it's a lesser model than mine but it accepts digital signals. Don't waste your money if you don't have too.

I saw this on the net, but I was under the impression that this meant it wasn't compliant. I guess I will get a cable and give it a try.

Thanks

Just got this from Hitachi:

Yes your unit is HDCP compliant.

The reason why it is more specified with our current models is cause of the HDMI differences of 1.1 and 1.2 which is what our HDMI supports, Your unit only supports 1.1 since its DVI.

Thank You

Hitachi Support

Now just waiting for my cable.

Thanks for all your help

Just a couple of points:
- The A2 doesn't have 5.1 analog outputs, only HDMI or Toslink (digital optical) outputs for 5.1 sound. TrueHD/DD+ would be converted to DTS on the Tosklink audio output because there's not enough bandwidth in Toslink.

- If you make a backup copy (a legal backup from a DVD you own) with the CSS removed, it can be upconverted via component.

Oops, you're right. Forgot the -A2 was 2.0 analog.
