Default good player for my setup ??

whats up guys ??, my 1st post and I am ready to take the red pill and jump in with both feet, I was ready to get the A2 with the 8 free discs last week but I just missed out on it. I would love an Xa2 but is a little out of my price range. I also have been looking at some of the 3rd gen players.

here is my setup:

Samsung 56' 1080p DLP (HLS5687W) we sit about 12 feet from the screen. Have 1 open HDMI slot for HDDVD player.

Sony SAVA-500 active speaker system, this unit is a few years old but is a complete audio system but has no digital input just 5.1 analog, but has some power and 2 built in subs.

Best Buy has an unadvertised sale on the HD-A20 right now in-store for $299. It's still $399 online, but you can get it for the price above in-store. I grabbed it last night.

Since you have a 1080p tv, I would get the A20 as it outputs 1080p. It's not much more than the A2, and the A2 outputs 1080i.

I have the A2 and love it, no problems what so ever. When I bought it, I only had a 1080i tv and said why pay more for something that won't show up any better. But I got a super deal on a Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1 plasma that is 1080p which I could not pass up. But the A2 still looks great as the Pioneer up-converts to 1080p very nicely.

My final suggestion: get the A20.

Here is where I got mine from

OK thanks for the input guys but one problem, I need it to have 5.1 jacks and the A2 and A2O do not, so do I have to get an XA2 or a 3rd gen.

Hi Vinny...I have not see much on the 3rd generation players yet. I did find this though :

Expected Pricing and Expected Availability:
HD-A3 ($299.99, October 2007)
HD-A30 ($399.99, September 2007)
HD-A35 ($499.99, October 2007)

I'm assueming that the 3rd generation will be the same as the 2nd as far as outputs go though. Right now though, the "expected price " on the new A35 is lower than the XA2 is on onecall. But when the 3rd generation comes out, I would expect the 2nd generation to get cheaper...maybe as much as $100.00.....it's a guessing game.

Are you dead set on HD ? I have the A2, but I also have the Samsung BD-P1200 and it has 5.1 analog outputs. It's a great player and it has the same upconverting chip ( Reon processor ) as the XA2. the only 2 players out on the market that currently have this chip.

I read that the A35 does not have the Reon chip and the XA2 will still be the flagship HDDVD player.

I've heard that the new A35 WILL NOT have the Reon processor. The A35 will most likely be the flagship as the XA2 will be discontinued. Vinny, I would search the web for reputable vendors and get the XA2. I have the Samsung BD-P1200 which has the Reon processor and it works wonders on upconverting regular dvd's to near hd quality.

UPDATE just checked a few places quickly. $570.00 at Amazon and Onecall. Amazon:free shipping, no tax. Onecall : no tax , $24.00 for Fedex 3 day. PLUS :12 months no interest with minimum monthly payments on purchases over $399 when using your OneCall Card.

VINNY..if you call Onecall, ask for Greg H. as he is the guy I've bought all my stuff from, which includeds two DLP 56" tv's, Samsung BD-P1200 Blu ray player, the Toshiba HD-A2 HD player and a Monster Power HTS2600 mkll. I've always used their no intrest for xx months payments AND Greg has usually lowered the price a bit if you just ask..

please note, I do not work for Onecall, nor do I know anybody working there. I'm just a VERY happy customer.

I heard that too. The AX2 is not on BB website, supposed to be an in store thing only. And I think that was like 7-10 days ago. Call your local BB and find out. If it's true....RUN to that store. And if it's true...post back and let us know....I may get one too, though I don't know why as I have the A2 and love it.
