Default Grainy picture

Just a quick question regarding ye're HD pictures. I was watching Heroes (HD) episode 1 last night and the scene where the guy who thinks he can fly is on the rooftop. But the sky in the background is very grainy. Is this the player or the transfer? Is it the TV resolution? My TV is 1366x768 and I have the DVD player at 1080i. Just wondering cos its not great. Could I improve it this through player/tv set up and or calibration? The close up scenes (faces) are excellent. I just wish the background was as good.

It's the transfer, not your equipment. The problem is worse on the "alternate unaired pilot" than on the regular broadcast version.
