Default Does componet cables upscale sd dvds on addon?

Just curious if regular dvds are upscaled using regular hd componet cables from the Xbox? I don't have the HDMI Xbox 360 and have just been using the regular hd cables it came with on my addon. I have thought about getting the VGA cables but I don't know. I don't really understand the difference. Is it worth upgrading with the HDMI or should I use VGA. My bedroom tv is a Dell 37 inch LCD Tv that supports 1080i. My other tv is in the living room and I won't be using the Xbox on it. If someone would reasearch my Dell tv and tell me the proper cable to use for the best audio and video, I would be so grateful. Me being so HD retarded, I just don't know.

Your component cables will work just fine. I have my XBox with HD DVD add-on connected to my Fujitsu plasma in the bedroom outputting 1080i over component.

However, DVDs are not upscaled by the 360 when outputting over component cables. Only HD DVDs, games, and the dashboard will ouput in 1080i/p. Standard DVDs will be output in 480p. This limitation does not apply to VGA or HDMI connections.

That being said, I don't think you'll notice a difference with HD DVDs/games on your TV if you switch to VGA/HDMI.

Standard DVDs... I've never personally seen one upscaled by a 360, but that is where you may notice a difference.

So using the HD DVD addon doesn't upscale my regular dvds at all. I can't really tell it they were upscaled that is why I was asking. Someone on here once said that if you get the vga and use the HD DVD addon that the movies will be upscaled.

Due to licensing restrictions, DVD can not be output at any higher than 480p over component cables. No player will ouput 720p/1080i/1080p video from a DVD source over component.

I can't remember, which ones are the component and which are VGA? Is the component cables the red, green and blue high def cables or the Yellow, red and white ones.

The yellow cable is Composite (Y/C combined), the red and white cables are stereo audio (right and left channels). This gives the worst quality you can get, apart from an RF cable.

Component is the red, green and blue cables (Y/Pr/Pb), usually accompanied by the same red and white stereo audio cables.

VGA is a single thick cable with a 15-pin plug. It's the same thing you'd plug into your (analog) PC monitor.

There are a few manufacturers who made dvd upconvert players that used component to upconvert:

Zenith 318: http://www.zenith.com/sub_prod/produ...?cat=15&id=178

Also: Momitsu V880-DX, V880N, and the NeuNeo HVD108 and HVD208.

In reference to players in this war, you are 100% correct.
