Default So I just bought an RCA HDV5000

but tomorrow, that puppy's going back. I saw it at Walmart for $225 and decided to go ahead and get it. Got home and read some reviews and the complaints about load time (which I hate), tired using it and expereienced the slow load, then couldn't play a disc because it needed updated firmware.

Anyway, before I left, I was looking on amazon at the A2's. The total for a new one with shipping came to $267.95, however, after getting home from walmart I checked again and the total on a new one with shipping came to $248.xx, so I went ahead and ordered one. I don't know what caused the sudden price drop (less than an hour), but I'm cool with it. Also, since I'll be getting a Toshiba instead, I can also get the 5 free movies.

Sidenote, I bought the 360 add-on early this year. I thought it was ok, but didn't like going through the console to play movies and also the noise from the console was annoying. Last week I purchased the Panasonic Blu-ray player and it reminded me how much more I prefer a stand-alone.

The A2 is good, but I would have recommended you bought an A20 instead, simply for its ability to do 1080p. I actually got my local Circuit City store to PM Amazon to 324.88, and then used a $40 off coupon. I got the thing for $301 after tax.

Of course, if you don't really care about 1080p, then nevermind. I have a budget though, and I made sure to buy something that will last me for a long time, because I plan to replace my 26" Panasonic Widescreen HD Tube with a 1080p Samsung Bordeaux LCD some day.

Agree with you "Future proofing" yourself, BUT, if someone doesn't have a tv that can do 1080p, the A20 is useless, just stick with the A2. If in the future the person decides to buy a 1080p tv, Im sure there will be better HD DVD 1080p players available then. No sense spending the extra money now. Just my opinion.
