Default A2 or A20

I have the Samsung HLS6187W 1080p DLP and was wondering is will I see much difference in PQ between the A2 and A20? I'd rather not spend the extra $100 on the A20 if I can't see the difference.

XA2 or A2. I've been reading on this site for 3 months and the conclusion is that the A20 doesn't have true 1080p, so if you're deciding between the A2 and A20, your best bet would probably be the A2. If you want true 1080p then you'll have to go with the XA2. I have the A2 and I'm with Spidey, I absolutely love it!!

So the A20 only 'upconverts' to 1080p?

I was going through the same thing. I got my a2 free with the purchase of my tv(Hhgregg had a deal get free a2 with any tv over 999 or upgrade to the a20 for 99 more) I took the a2 home and loved it and the PQ was amazing. I was reading about the a20 and wonderd why I only went with the player that was 1080i when I have a tv that is 1080p. Plus I heard about the update that is "supposed" to be coming next month that will allow the a20 to display 1080p/24 an thats why I took the a2 back and paid 100 bucks for the a20. Both players are nice I just went with the a20 b/c of what it may be capiable of in the future.

As long as your TV has good de-interlacing, 1080p will NOT make a difference. There is absolutely no information lost in 1080i as opposed to 1080p with films in particular. With video games it could make a difference, but the way films are done, paying more for a player for the sole reason that it does 1080p instead of i is probably going to be a waste of money. Because most people with HD players invest in good TV's, 1080p output is largely a gimmick.

Reading above however, if the player will be able to output 24fps, it may be worth it. I can't say for sure though, as I'm not entirely certain how detrimental the 3:2 pulldown is to the final result.
