Default HD-DVD player & The Matador

I have an HD-XE1 (UK HD-XA2) and have had no problems whatsoever with it until now.

When playing the Matador, about 20mins in it becomes unwatchable - loads of artifacting, skipping and noise on the screen. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm thinking it must be the disk as the player stills works fine with every other HD-DVD I own. Am just wondering incase this is a common complaint?

Any suggestions other than sending the disc back?

I had lots of problems with Weinstein discs including this one on my 360 add-on. They tend to have too much extra residue on them. I would try the hot or boiling water technique on it, as that fixed a few of mine.

Yes, it's a common problem. For some reason Firmware 2.0 has caused compatibility issues with Weinstein discs. My copy of The Matador played fine under Firmware 1.4, but after upgrading to 2.0 the picture becomes a blocky mess approximately 45 minutes in. If I pause and restart the movie it clears up for a while, but does the same after every half hour or so.

Many people are having this problem, unfortunately. It has been reported to Toshiba and they're looking into it.

Yep. JOSH is correct. All my Weisntein discs played fine on my XE1 with the older firmwares. When I upgraded to firmware 2.0 nearly all of my Weinstein discs now "break-up" after 20-30 mins of play. Chapter skip or scan corrects the problem only for it to happen again 20-30 mins later. Apparently, Toshiba are aware of the issue. But if I were you I would call them or email them as the more people who complain about this issue the quicker it will get sorted out! Let me know hoe you get on.

Thanks.
