Default HD DVD owners: Stand-alone or 360 add-on?

I want to know what kind of HD DVD option you chose! I have the 360 add-on.

Boy it must not be hard to set up a poll, that was fast! My A1 since May 3, 2006. Only three glitches since I have had the beauty and none since FW 2.0!

This add-on may very well end up being the story of the HD "war". What an unexpected boost to HD DVD it is.

And timing was everything. Releasing a year after the 360 debuted gave it a 4 million userbase to sell it to. And since those 4 million users already invested in the 360, buying the add-on wasn't viewed as '$400 + $200', but as "wow! I can get HD DVD for just $200!"

This is getting interesting....

I initially owned the A1 (got it for $399) and then when I had the opportunity to purchase the add-on for $160, I couldn't pass it up, so, I purchased that as well.

Still using my trusty A1 without a single problem so far (knock on wood).

360 add-on here too, although I hope to get the Toshiba XE1 early next year!

I have HD-A1 and RCA models, no 360 for me.

A coworker has the 360 addon, and it works fine, I just don't like the audio outputs from it as well as the HDMI & analog outs on the stand alone systems.

360 add-on.

P.S. StarkyLuv, just want to say how much I agree with your posts in the other thread about PS3 and the "Trojan horse" strategy. The machine is simply priced too high for a games console, and most people who just want to play HD movies won't feel comfortable buying a video game console over a standalone player.

Nice idea, but it doesn't work.

Closer to topic, I too bought the 360 add-on thinking, "Holy crap, $200 for HD movies?" The add-on strategy is clearly a winning idea and the approach Sony SHOULD have taken with its flagship brand.
