Default Need help deciding b/t the H2-Ao2 and the HD-XA2

So my gf gave me ok to buy an hd dvd player and i'm trying to decide which one to buy. I have a 1080p tv, so it would be nice to get a 1080p hd dvd player (heck i might bite for the h2-a2, if it dips below $200). But anyways, I just want to know if you guys think the XA2 is worth the extra money over the Ao2.

I can get the Ao2 for $321, while the XA-2 comes out to $620. For that additional $300 dollars i could get alot stuff, but I want to get something good. I never mind paying more as long as it's worth it. I know manufactures always try to add words to the features and specs page to make their items more appealing, but I want to know from you guys which would work in my case.

Thanks for the help.

Well, first of all, there's is considerable as to how much - if any - improvement there is feed your 1080p display 1080p input vs. 1080i. The maximum HD broadcast TV resolution is 1080i, so 1080p displays are designed to take that 1080i signal and display it progressively ("p"). I'm not convinced there is much improvement in the 1080p output of the A20 over the A2's 1080i.

But as to the A20 vs. XA2 - audio would be the deciding factor. Does your receiver have HDMI audio? The A2 & A20 do not have analog audio output, only HDMI & optical. You won't get TrueHD via optical. The XA2 has 5.1 analog outputs, which support all audio output.

thanks for the response. i don't have a receiver or any kind of ht set-up right now. it's just set-up in my room at the moment and i just the surround sound that is on the tv. i've been meaning to get a good ht set-up, but that is for later.

from what you are saying, i guess the ao2 is looking more and more like the choice.

any other suggestions?
