Thumbs up Best Buy / Toshiba new player!

I went with my step father to Best Buy this afternoon, I told him about the HD DVD and players because he just got a new tv, 60" HD tv. So while at Best Buy we checked out the HDDVD and we asked if he had any of the first model, guy said no, but since the new model is just like the other one I will make it down and sale it to u $299.

They are the same to a certain extent. The major difference is that the A1 has analog outs you connect to the receiver, while the A2 lacks them yet includes the Optical/Coax. For TrueHD, you'll need the adequate receiver to decode the signal through HDMI; but you'll still get great sound through Bitstream. The other difference, which you might think minor depending on your TV set, is that the XA2 offers 1080p while A1 still runs on 1080i. No matter though for that price!

The XA2 is the one that does 1080p, not the A2.

The HD-A1 has a NEC drive & the A2, a Toshiba one.

Boot-up time is faster
Less fan Noise
Less Weight. (looks like a slim-line dvd player )
Upconversion thee same
No analog outs, so HDMI only, or you will get downmixed DD+ & DTHD from Optical.

Tempting, btw, congrats on the price!

All BB's are selling their remaining A1s for $299. There was a post a week ago in the HD DVD Bargain threads.

Same thing over here at my BB yesterday. But guess what . . .

They were completely sold out, while once again being fully stocked of Sony and Samsung BRs! And all they had left was the floor model for that price. I think Mike is very lucky because I doubt my BB would make a similar offer.
