I have used Firmware 4.0 on both my XE1 and Onkyo 805. Both play discs perfectly.

I have read that the problems is with 1080p/60 - 1080p/24 not with 720p or 1080i. Which is the date of your player xe1?

I have readden this from another:
"
My XA2 ALWAYS and ONLY shuts down under the following circumstances:

Must be an HD-DVD (SD never causes shut down)
Must be set to 1080/60 (1080/24 never causes shut down)
Audio must be set to Bitstream (decoding the audio at the player never causes shutdown)

All three of these conditions must be true, if they are mine ALWAYS shuts down in the first couple of minutes of ANY HD-DVD movie

if only one or two of those conditions are true mine NEVER shuts down

Hey Paul,

Here an older link from this Forum about that error:

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/hd-d...08bc504-3.html

IMO it's not a problem of the XE1 (XA2), there are some discs around which bring forth this failure. Here some examples:

- 300
- Planet Earth
- Matrix Boxset
- Evan Allmighty (Germany)
- Unforgiven (Germany)
- Oceans 13 (Germany)

It will make more sense to replace the faulty discs than the Player. I have some XE1 and also an Onkyo - both latest Updates 4.0 + 2.8 - and they work as the Limey mentioned perfectly.

If the Player often does shut down I would suggest to reset it or to initialize it (setup) and than install the update 4.0 again. Should work IMO.

BTW, the most bad error is the "Welcome" bug. The mainboard is not able to boot - Player is crap....
