Default Is this a good HD DVD player??

My 360 broke again for the forth time so I said forget it and just got full refund in EB store credit for the machine. So now I saw an HD DVD player at best buy for $299.99 is it any good. Let me say that my TV only supports 1080i so I dont care about 1080p support. I really want to go back to being Neutral. I think I am going to get it and it will hold me over untill my parents get an full HDTV for the living room(which will be a very very very long time ) any opinions heres the link.

I have this model and it is excellent. It also upconverts extremely well. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with it. Plus you get 5 free HD DVDs by rebate.

Thanks Spidey Bat I have decided that after four 360s that randomly gave me the red lights of death for no reason that Microsoft dosent care about the consumer by releasing junk.(360 has good games but i am dissapointed with the console) I am definaltey going to get this DVD player at best buy for 300 dollars it seems like a good deal. The 5 free movies deal is still going on? I tought it was over? if not great a big plus. I love being nuetral so I will definatley be picking up this player. Thanks again Spidey Bat for actually answering my post without going into fanboyism that is so common on thos site.

The 5 disc deal ends 7/31/07. It must be postmarked by 8/31/07. You made a great choice. Enjoy!

Yes, it's a good player. Fairly basic, but still produces an excellent picture. But don't go to BB, go to Amazon and save $100.00

Another vote for the HDa2. I just got it a few days ago, and awesome.

probably the best player yet that I have seen. Its much better then the oppo and the HD add on.. in PQ.

Problem is every 360 you get has the same problem. if you wait a month or two the 360 issue should be solved. I to have the HD-A2. got it for $199 last month. Good quality player.

I picked up a HD-D2 at Costco (same as the HD-A2, but they bundle a 6 foot HDMI cable with it), for pretty much the same reason. 5 free movies and cheaper than buying a Core 360 as a "backup"...

I think there are several advantages. It's quieter and consumes less power than the 360. I've gained upscaling of SD DVDs, and an HDMI out.

The picture and audio quality gain for HD DVD is really debateable (the add-on being very good IMO), the one area where I think the add-on is better is the time to get to the 360 dash is quicker than the boot time of the HD-A2/D2, and the add-on's disc tray is instant open (you can power up your 360 by opening the add-on an popping in a disc right away). Even if you hit the tray open button on the standalone, it won't open until it finishes booting up.

you can't go wrong with the a2. the reason i bought the a2 was because i was scared my 360 was going to brick, so i sold the add on to my little sis and bought it. i use the a2 probably 5 hours a day at least and have had no problems
