Default The power button needs to turn it OFF

Hi, I'm in the hunt for a Blue Ray Player (BRP), which actually turns off when you press the power button. I know it's a bit old fashioned but I do like it when I am not paying for my electrical equipment to sit there, with a red LED on making me pay for nothing. I've been around comet just for a look but they don't have any. Does anyone have such a BRP or know of a model?
Thanks

I haven't seen anything like this in a long long time. People expect their equipment to turn on from the remote, therefore the equipment has to stay on to at least watch for the remote. Some equipment has got the power consumption so small in that sleep mode that it is very nearly off.

But if it is that important to you, just add a power strip and use the power strip's off switch.

I know, it's a bit poor by manufacturers. Given we're all supposed to be saving the world etc and doing everything under the sun to save it, it should at least be an option.

Thanks

Electronics always go into standby mode in order to make them start up faster. There are basically no new items that actually turn off.

Do you want it 'off off' or just in 'standby' mode? I know the two biggie manufacturers, Sony and Panasonic, have discrete on & off codes for their Blu-ray players which you can program into most universal remote controls. URC and Harmony being the big players. This way, when you hit the 'off' button on your universal remote, it turns the TV off, the DirecTV off, the receiver off, and the Blu-ray player off regardless of the power state it was in before.

This isn't the same as a hard power off, but generally, to be Energy Star compliant their 'off' power draw has to be extremely low.

By the way, you might get more help about BD players if you post in the BD section instead of the HD-DVD section.
