Default Dolby Digital True and Plus from HD A2

I just hooked up my new receiver and cannot for the life of me get the HD A2 to output anything but PCM audio to it - what am I doing wrong? I have it set to Bitstream and Auto and it shows True and Plus as the selected audio on display but the receiver always shows PCM. The manual is no help at all. Thanks.

The A2 can only output those in PCM. You will be getting the same True HD or Plus track, but it will be going out as PCM.

But it is limited to 5.1 (PCM). No 5.1 EX etc.

EX is matrix-encoded- if you have EX turned on your receiver, it'll work through PCM. There's a bunch of EX DVDs that don't have the flag set either, so it's best to just have your receiver always decode it.

Discrete 6.1 or 7.1 sound can't be output from these players as PCM though- I have the Dolby and DTS demo discs, both of which have some sections in 7.1, and PCM only outputs them as 5.1. My Blu-Ray player outputs Dolby 7.1 tracks thru PCM, but it has to bitstream to get DTS.
