Default Toshiba HD-A30 - Which firmware should I use?

What's the best firmware to use for the HD-A30? I'm reading mixed reports about good and bad firmware for this model. Getting one in soon. Thanks.

Okay awesome. I have heard people complaining about jaggies after upgraded to 4.0 but I will probably upgrade to latest and greatest. Do you know if there is an overview anywhere online about which firmware upgrades do what? thanks again.

I have 2 A30's and I have not updated a firmware on either of them. Both play fine and the u-control features work great so...why bother with updating a firmware, right?? I would not update a firmware unless your experiencing problems with your player. Just my opinion.

I've used 4.0 upgrade on my A-30 also and have not had a problem, same with my XA-2. I talked to a Toshiba rep. and asked anymore firmware upgrades in the future,he said probably not. Even he said it was the better format, which I totally agree! I like Blu but Red better!!! ...nvc1019

Interesting. Why do you think it is a better format?

I've been running the 4.0 firmware on my A30 - and also now my A35. Firmware 4.0 has been excellent in both models.

Do you know where the revision information is for each firmware?

I don't recall there being much specific offered - just the usual "improves playback of . . . blah blah blah". If you are concerned with that, I suggest you peruse the AVS forums - the folks there usually find and record more detailed info. All we're trying to say is - firmware 4.0 is the best available for the A30. Toshiba continued developing and offering firmware updates to address issues long after the demise of the HD-DVD format (which was really terrific of them), but you can probably safely bet that firmware 4.0 is as good as it is ever going to get.

I think HD-DVD just because of the region free coding something Blu-Ray does not do. With the HD-DVD it's a world format you can basically watch them on any HD player. I picked up Carlito's Way on Blu-Ray today no difference just a little more louder in the audio, but pic exactly the same!
