I downloaded and unzipped the 4.0 iso and burnt it to a CD-R. Then when I put it in the player I get this message ďDisc is not dvd format. Cannot play the disc.Ē
Well no shit its not a DVD. Since when have you not been able to read CDís?

Iíve updated my firmware in the past with no issues. Anyone know whatís going on?

I would say that something just didn't quite go right during your burn process; bad cd-r, corrupt file, burned at too fast of speed, disc didn't get finalized properly, any number of things. Are you using the same burn program and same media as before? If it doesn't work on a second CD-R try, call Toshiba and have them send you the disc if you are not comfortable hooking up to your modem or router and downloading that way. The network download procedure has worked flawlessly several times for me with my players.

I've had similiar problems with my Toshiba A30. Problem for me was generated by the burning software I used and the drive I was using to burn the cd-r. I ended up using a laptop, not my HP Desktop with a Lite-on oem drive, with Nero with same cd-r media and the update worked fine.

I always burn my discs at pretty much the slowest speed 2x which is still fast since the file is only 40mb or less

Once you have your unzipped/proper iso image of the firmware sitting on your hard disk - download and use ImgBurn (free) and burn the iso image to a fresh cd-r using the "write image file to disc" selection. Pick a write speed roughly in the middle of your burner and media max speed ratings (ie. I burn 52x cd-r media in a burner capable of 52x burning at around 24x or 26x). This works 100% for me. And firmware 4.0 has worked flawlessly for me in my A30.
