I use 1080p/24p, but I don't really know if it affects the quality of playback on my tv? I know I've had to turn it off for one movie that was shuddering, but other then that I don't see a difference....

well its only movies with avc encoding, not all of them, so i think the main movie people use to test it is transformers?

If you've loaded 3.0, no one has yet created a file that will let you revert to 2.7. The only "reversion" file out there will only work if you're currently on 2.8 (it renames the 2.7 firmware as v2.9, tricking the player into thinking that it's newer). Someone will have to edit the file to rename it v3.1 or something.

As mentioned above, check the HD DVD Players forum on AVSForum. I'm sure someone will eventually post a new 2.7 reversion file. There are also several threads there with instructions on how to do this yourself if you know how to use a hex editor.

In the meantime, turn off 1080p24 or don't watch any AVC-encoded discs.

There is now a report that it does fix the 1080/24p jaggies.

At first someone said it didn't.

But who knows what kind of display he has and what settings.

Then over at AVS, a trusted poster with a calibrated display which accepts 1080/24 says it did fix the jaggies.

If the claim is true Chris, obviously there is no need to go back to 2.7.

How long is step 4 supposed to take? It's been sitting there for 5-10 minutes saying step 4/4.....did it freeze?

EDIT* NM, I was just impatient.

I would advise everyone to just wait a few days and let the situation clear up. If your player works fine right now, don't be in a hurry to update anything.

Am downloading and installing and will test the jaggie issue and report back..For those updating, remember to try and re-initialize the player before playback...be back in a bit..

Installed, as far as the jaggie issue on certain AVC encoded discs, there appears no significant change, the distortion still exists to an extent.

So, for me, 24FPS for most of my catalog and 60 FPS for select Paramount AVC's..

Went from 1.1/1.1 to 3.0/1.1 tonight on my A30. I will try and check out the 1080/24 tomorrow, what specifics movies had the jaggies? I think I saw transformers, so I will try that.
