Anyone here who owns a Highdef player but not a surround system?

I own a HD-DVD player, and love watching movies in HD, but I don't own a 7.1 or even a 5.1 system. Hell, I don't even own a set of speakers as I watch movies using headphones and a headphone amp, connected via RCA cables to the player. This is purely out of necessity, as I only have time to watch movies after my children are asleep, and a small apartment does not allow me to have a sound-proofed HT room. Still, after having done this for 5 years I've gotten used to it. When I read reviews of dvds/HDs I usually skip the audio sections.

Just wondering if I'm the only guy who watches movies like this.

I feel your pain, I have both a A3 and a PS3; and I'm stuck using TV speakers until I can save up the $$$ for a 5.1 system (wife says no to a 7.1 system)

Yeah, I'm in the same situation here with my HD player (which must remain nameless to avoid looking like the beginnings of another smackdown). I have the audio coming through my TV and even so, I can convince myself that the audio sounds better than it would on broadcast TV or DVD.

If wireless speakers become affordable, they'd be the only suitable option in my current set up.

I have the gear shown on my sig and no sound system to go with either of them. Nothing but the tv speakers...which is fine by me. I am more of a pq guy than a aq guy. Just have not been bitten by that bug yet that makes me want a surround sound system.

Sound is half the experience for me. Big picture, big sound. My current TV doesn't even have any speakers come to think of it...

I work nights so all of my audio listening is done through my headphones. I have a nice 300 dollar pair and they are awesome.

I only use my speakers once in a while.

honestly I'd say maybe 80% of people on this forum are probably in this very situation. The rarer reality is members that actually DO have a surround 5.1 setup imo. :-#:-#

I live in an apartment and my TV is in a somewhat small room. A surround sound system would not be practical and I couldn't really take advantage of it without disturbing my neighbors.

Actually I don't have a HD-TV or Surround Sound. In fact I only have a 20" Toshiba TV with Component Cables hooked up to my PS3 . My previous roommate had a 50" 1080i sony and surround sound though and boy could I tell the difference. Let's just say I'm preparing for the day when I get my own stuff. I don't even buy DVD's anymore... Blu from here on out!
