Default LG 1080p Blu-ray Disc™ and HD DVD Player

Bestbuy has this player on sale for $999 plus you get a $200 gift card, which makes it's price $799. Looks like LG is getting ready for the Samsung Dual Format player.

It's nice that Best Buy informs customers (*) that the LG isn't Supported by HD DVD/HDi.

Since you brought up Samsung...

It's listed up here for $999.99 CAN Best Buy told me it would be more likely go down to $899.99. Depending on reviews, I will pick this up for the Family Room.

I checked with them and they are getting it in. Shocking that they DIDN'T KNOW anything about it. They thought Samsung was just BD, he thanked me because he didn't like the LG and this is what he's been waiting for.

I agree about the * part of the ad, assuming anyone reads the fine print

Good to hear about the price of the Samsung hope it does sell for only $899, I have been wanting one, but I have heard prices as high as $1200.

I'll wait for combo players to drop to $500 before I even consider them. Waaay too much money for a big risk IMO.

Is the new samsung player met all the HD DVD standards? Also is it up to date with all the current BD standards?

Samsung’s Duo HD player (BD-UP5000) will fully support both HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats and their interactive technologies, HDi and BD-Java.
