Default Batman Begins [Blu-ray]???

Does anyone know if WB has given a rough street date for the Blu-Ray version of Batman Begins?

I own it on HD-dvd right now and everything else I have is blu-ray. I def prefer to watch my movies over HDMI versus VGA cable.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

S

Well wait for news at the upcoming CES show in early January. However, given that Warner have already released titles in both formats I'm sure this will come along at some point.

They are more than likely waiting for BD to catch up with HD-DVD in terms of true IME-like functionality. So you could be waiting until the end of 2007/ early 2008.

Some people think it is because Warner's is being "unfair" to Blu-ray.

LOL

I think it has something to do with IME (In-Movie Experience).

Yes, from what I heard they won't release it until BD-J is able to do PiP commentaries along with some other advanced functionality.

That is why Warner has been holding up a lot of their releases.

It actually seems they are favoring Blu-ray because they are holding back HD DVD releases until Blu-ray can offer the same features.

Luckily for us Warner in Europe is not holing back for BD-J as they are releasing the Matrix trilogy, Harry Potter Series, and more on HD DVD only in Europe this year.

BD-J won't ever be able to do true picture-in-picture as long as the players do not have a second video processor. The only way to have the similar IME type content on BD and HD DVD versions of titles like Batman Returns is to simulate the features of HD DVD. Lionsgate does this by putting a second copy of the entire movie with simulated PiP content on the disc.

When HD DVDs start putting online interactive features on the discs, studios like Warner will again have to face the choice of holding back content for HD DVD owners or releasing discs with features that can only be used on HD DVDs.

To be honest I really don't care about those feature, The most important thing to me is very nice audio and video output - other thinsg don't matter.

For me I have Batmen begins on HD DVD, my only plan to replace it with Blu-Ray is once the media war is over.

You may not mind, but how would it look if more and more BDs were released with less content than their HD DVD counterparts? Paramount did this once (with MI3) and I don't think they've done it since. Warner has tried to avoid this altogether (but apparently can not.) They don't want to appear biased towards one format, but it is hard when the capabilities of the formats are not equal. I for one think more discs like MI3 should be released. Why hold back HD DVDs because BD doesn't have the same features? BDs owners don't need the extras, so leave them off the BD versions and just give them to HD DVD owners.
