Default PS3 MW2 LeaderBoards Hacked! 360's just fine!

A bunch of cheating peens with nothing better to do have decided to hack the leaderboards for Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation 3.

The hackers have been active over the last few days, and now their names appear at the top of the leaderboards with literally impossible scores and figures – such as play time that totals tens of thousands of days.

Right now, this doesn’t appear to be affecting the Xbox 360 or PC versions, and I’d hope Activision/Infinity Ward moves quickly to fix this nonsense (though neither has made a comment yet). I know it’s the same with every big release – you’ll always get some dickshoe who’ll happily cheat his way to the top – but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be addressed swiftly.

This is just the latest bout of cheating to hit the massively popular first-person shooter. It’s not been out for a month yet, but already hacks for the PC version are available, and thousands of “players” have already been banned by Infinity Ward. Uuuugh, people.

LOL see what happens when you don't ban cheaters and hackers on your service? LMFAO!

This is funny because your article literally has nothing to do with your commentary.

Some nefarious new hackery has been wrecking the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2, allowing cheaters to scale the top of the leaderboards with ludicrously high scores. Not ones for subtlety, the cheaters have awarded themselves impossible statistics, such as gameplay time running into tens of thousands of days.

The problem appears to be incredibly widespread, with hacking information readily available online for people with so little self-esteem that they need to cheat in an online videogame to make themselves look like they've accomplished something in life. So far, neither Activision or Infinity Ward have responded to the this new issue, although a fix shall surely come soon.

So, why is it that the PS3 version is suffering all these hacks? Perhaps because they know Sony won't be doing anything about it? Looks to me like the PlayStation Network could well become a haven for the scumballs of online gaming.

How unfortunate. >_>. Somehow, I wouldn't be surprised if bans are handed down. Cheating is obviously bad, but hacking is most certainly a a ToS violation.

what upsetting me is that this will make more and more developer lock their save files (like rockband) and people wont be able move their game data from one PS3 to another (in case the old one died)

Its not so simple to simply ban users on PSN it is a free service they will just make another account. Also It looks like people are playing MW2 on the PS3 if it is getting hacked.

The failure to maintain MW2 cheater-free is solely on Activision. They provided the servers for their own games, they provided the software, they maintain their own game.

Just like EA's responsible for cheaters and hackers on EA games.

well some of us dont think that have to re-do all the challenge in rockband when switching console is a good use of one time

and thanks to these kind of people, that's going to be the norm for all games in the future
