Default Sony merges games division into Vaio and Walkman division.

Does this mean anything? My guess is probably not but it's still interesting. Big shake-ups at Sony.

I'm sure it means something, so far as cost savings (im sure it will eliminate positions, or is perhaps part of those layoffs announced a while back). Streamlining is something sony REALLY needs -- it's disfunctional to have it's divisions so isolated etc

A lot of businesses do a this type of consolidation and reorganization to help reduce overhead, and then find areas of overlap for personnel reductions. It also allows for a lot of book keeping gimmicks if I understand correctly

Edit: Yeah, just read the full article, and it's as I assumed. SCE's remain basically untouched, but simply under a new umbrella division in hopes of streamlining. I expect to see some articles about the resulting layoffs soon - possibly just reiterating the cuts they announced a month or two ago

Thread title is misleading, Vaio and Walkman division is being merged into the Game Division

Wait.....there's a whole division for Walkman?

I was too young for when they came out, but even though there were competitors, wasn't the walkman just like the Ipod is now? Everyone had a Sony cassete/radio?

I think it's interesting and may point to what Sony has planned for the future. Some kind of PSP/Walkman hybrid device. Something to kill the I-Pod hopefully.

that door has been shut for a long time (ipod killer)

it shows that sony is finally coming to grips with problems in the company and this is just the beginning as their next report is gonna be a bloodbath

That's dumb to think the I-Pod will own the MP3 player market for all eternity. The I-Pod can be taken down at any time. One of those flexible OLED MP3/Media player devices come to mind as an excellent future contender.

Merging their entertainment division with Vaio and Walkman will only likely help increase cross-compatibility with other Sony devices.

Thats not elimination.
