Default Will new PS3s in North America go without BC?

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157442

With the news of the European PS3s not having full backwards compatibility, it's getting some people worried about the PS3s to be sold in North America in the next few months.
I hope they don't do the same thing here as they are doing with the European PS3s.

What do you guys think. Should we be concerned?

Heh, I would be willling to trade with someone that wants the old HW BC verson. I just want the quiter and cooler running version. I have no intention of using it for PS2 games.

I don't think so. It might just be a issue dealing with PAL.

I forget where I read this but I think that they were removing some chip that allows the BC. It saves like $27 or something. If I find the article this info was in I'll post a link.

Um, yeah... seeing as how it's SOFTWARE EMU, then that pretty much assures all non-hardware BC PS3's will feature a the firmware version with the software emu.

I don't really know how all this stuff works, and all the ins and outs of the hardware or software for any system. I just want it to work and do what it was intended and promised to do.

Default U.S. next to lose PS3 backward compatibility?

Quote:
This week Sony announced there may be some slight backward compatibility issues on the European PS3. CVG followed-up and received word from Sony European PR, "Backwards compatibility is important but it does not define the PS3 in the same way as the other features do." They'll let the Europeans know what games are compatible when the system launches March 23.

The question now is if this backward compatibility issue, spawned by a software program handling PS2 conversion instead of a hardware chip, would rear its ugly head for future PS3 owners in the U.S.? 1UP went ahead and asked the question and they were told, "We have no announcement ... at this time." Um, that's not a "No." Where's the "No?" Let's hope that Sony at least makes an announcement about the conversion, or gets their software up to the 98 percent compatibility like the current PS3 model, before they leave backward compatibility behind like a high school girlfriend after prom.

Unlike the PS2, the PS3 doesn't have any legacy chips inside. The PS2 actually had the processor from the PS1 that it used as an extra sound chip. Having the chip in there made BC easier. The PS3 doesn't have any "Emotion Engine" chips inside probably because of cost. They've resorted to using software to do BC just like the 360 has to.
