Off Topic: There was a discussion about Assassin's Creed Odyssey a while back.

I'm playing through Origins right now (the 2017 game), and it's fucking great. I'm having the same reaction to this game that I heard people have to The Witcher 3. The storytelling is great, and there are some surprisingly well done side quests. I'm about 40 hours in and I'm looking forward to another 80+ with all the DLC stuff they added.

Tried the new VR mode for No Man's Sky. It seems very cool, but I'm going to wait on a patch for some things to clear up. The graphics take a definite hit, even on the Pro, with that blurry look that you sometimes see on high res games that get a VR mode. WipeOut definitely looks sharper in that regard.

My big issue is the controls. They've copied the Skyrim method of movement for people using Move controllers, so I think that's good, as it allows more people to find a comfort setting that works for them, but it's absolutely terrible right now for piloting the ship. It's way too sensitive, and nearly impossible to move your ship in a direction you want and then just go in a straight line. I actually had to turn off the Move controllers, and switch back to the DualShock to get proper responsiveness. There are also some minor bugs, like having to turn off Boost and Super Sampling mode to get NMS to even load. If you have those settings on, the game just goes to a black screen and stays there.

On the other hand, once those control/bug issues are worked out, this really feels like the way to play the game. I went back to my safe, newbie starter-world, where I had built a base, and it feels like a different experience wandering around the planet now. The sense of immersion and isolation are much stronger, and even just looking up at a tree and realizing how big it is makes you feel like "you are there" in a way the flat/base game doesn't.

If they can smooth out the bugs and make the controls a little less twitchy, this will be a hell of a game to play. It's also a GAME CHANGER that they increased the inventory stack from 250 to 10K units. That makes it a lot easier to wander around independently, without worrying about running out of fuel/oxygen/shield energy/whatever that keeps you alive while on a hostile world.
