He's an engine guy. I judge Id by their quality in the games, but judge Carmack through his engines. He knows what he's talking about.

Valve and id haven't quite made the transition yet to efficient multicore programming. Unfortunately, writing good code for the cell, or good code that makes use of a multi-core architecture like the 360 are both incredibly more difficult than the good old days of single core programming while offloading everything else to the GPU.

So I do believe that there's more headroom left in both systems, but the PS3 has more. However, one thing PS3 will never get is good AA compared to 360, due to lack of EDRAM. This was a serious oversight

Well I do hope the Rage engine or whatever its called comes out nice. I think it's time for the unreal engine to be retired.

I don't think it needs to be retired...just used more sparingly. It's all over the place.

Its all over the place cause its awesome.

Cheap to liscenes
I think the games that run on it look pretty damn good
Its multiplatform ready

People wouldnt use it if it sucked :P

Perhaps just with small developers, the big boys need to move on.

And Valve should use that new engine they are working on, L4D looks like donkey shit even though many people like the gameplay.

HL engines have always looked like and been second rate to me. I think people just love the HL engine because its so open source and tons of good games have been made on it.

D3 engine is still one of my favorite looking.

Fear engine is pretty good to.

I really like UT3 engine. I dont see the issue in it. People just need to start making better textures.
