Default Overheating question for those better informed than I...

My PS3 shut itself off and blinked it's lights. I've got it off and unplugged and allowing it to cool. How much time does it take to cool down? I'm kinda worried that it might be a YLOD, which would totally suck.

I mean, I cannot afford to buy a new system, and I will get it repaired, if necessary. I'm just hoping it doesn't come to it.

I'd let it sit for about 45 minutes to an hour. Run a vacuum through all vents and if possible, let it stand vertically for better ventilation (since the fan blows air out of the side).

Good luck.

Well yes, I *do* fear it. On 360, at least I can just swap the hard drive between the broken console and fixed one.

On PS3, I can't. Even a backup is somewhat limited if it's restored on a different PS3.

Well, they were smart about it, at least. With half the people losing them to ylod, and half the people losing them to disc-drive failures, there will never be a strong enough case one way or the other for them pony up to an extended warranty.

That is one of THE worst fanboy comments I have ever heard...

That sucks, buddy. $150 bucks is a tough pill to swallow for a repair, but at least its cheaper then a new console. Its really a shame that the original 60GB PS3 seems the best choice for features, but the worst choice for reliability.
