Default $50 rebate on Elite 360's for 2 weeks ($250 after rebate now)

http://kotaku.com/5365004/get-cash-b...xbox-360-elite

Normally I'd put this under the "bargains" section, but it's curious to me as it's actually a MS sponsored rebate through MS directly. It is for any Elite 360's purchased through Oct. 4th I guess.

Sure rebates suck, but it makes me wonder why they'd do this? Are they going to do another price drop soon or something? Clearing out inventory? Just doesn't make sense to me.

PS3 Slims are probably selling really well and MS is probably trying to make up ground by moving Elites. Just my guess. Maybe there's a 250gb super elite really in the works

Official Press Release:

Quote:
Stretch Your Entertainment Dollar with Special Offer from Xbox 360
$50 Rebate Offered with the Purchase of Xbox 360 Elite through Oct. 5

Beginning today through Oct. 5, when you purchase an Xbox 360 Elite for $299, Xbox 360 will put $50 back into your pocket with a limited-time rebate. Coupled with the recent price drop of the Xbox 360 Elite console, this offer makes your premium games and entertainment experience more affordable than ever.

Xbox 360 Elite puts all your entertainment in one place so you can play games, watch movies and TV shows, listen to music, and, coming this fall, keep up with your Twitter and Facebook social circles, all from your living room. Additionally, with a Netflix unlimited membership and an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership you can instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix, recommend your favorite shows and share in a movie party night with up to 7 friends — all on Xbox LIVE.

And, as announced earlier this year, the Xbox 360 you buy today will work with “Project Natal” and controller-free gaming in the future.

You may be eligible for the $50 Mail-in rebate when you purchase an Xbox 360 Elite in the U.S. between Sept. 22 and Oct. 5. Visit www.xbox.com/eliterebate/ for more details and rebate requirements.

I think this would be an interesting experiment. I've always wondered how the market would respond to temporary price cuts in the video game industry, but we haven't really seen one in full effect yet

See it's things like this, when you are patient, that makes entry into the other consoles worth it. You then have access to ALL the aisles of Best Buy and Blockbuster

I'm tempted... my Elite, which is an OG Elite, is starting to get a lil loud. I think it's filled with dust though.

Anyone else think it's interesting that the PSPgo is priced the same as the 360 after rebate? Makes you realize that it's overpriced.

As for the console itself... I'd do it, if I had a spare $250.

I got my elite last week, time to return to gamestop...and get a new one. Maybe they'll just exchange it "on paper" without me having to box it all up again.
