Default PS3 Headset question

So i got the shitcom headset bundle for a decent deal (not as good as my canadian friend who got it for $30 at futureshop) and I seem to recall seeing, on here, that there is a right way and a wrong way to pair it with the ps3 and set it up. I seem to remember hearing that both ways would make it work fine, but one way would afford you all the special features it has and another would only get you basic use.

Can anyone refresh me on that please?

Also, I just put it in its charger for the first time and it's intermittently flashing red (that means charging I assume). Will it stop flashing once it's charged? If not, i'm going to have to move this away from the front of my home theater lol....

- See manual for details.
- To pair properly, simply turn on PS3 and attach headset via USB cable. That's it.
- It'll stop flashing once done charging.
