Default PS3 BC Question?

Is there a comprehensive list of backward compatibility information for the PS3? I know that Sony's website has a list, but frankly it is terrible. For one, the only models listed are the 20/60gb model, and one particular 80gb model. I have a 40gb, and while I believe that it has the same internal BC components as the 80gb models I am not totally sure. Furthermore, the reports on that site are intermittent and not very specific.

There is also a wiki entry here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ystation_games), but that list has similiar problems as the Sony one and is also even less comprehensive (only has PS2 games, which my PS3 can never play).

So, where can I find helpful information about which games play, which don't, and what issues pop-up when playing them on a 40gb PS3?

As an example of useful, please see this list of 360's BC on wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._with_Xbox_360)
It lists every compatible game, as well as for which console it works (PAL, NTSC, etc), if there is widescreen support, and what issues crop up when playing the game in BC mode.

Is there anything like the above that I could reference. I keep hearing contradictory things about games I'd like to maybe give a try (like Chrono Cross, or some of the FF games) but hear from some that they are broken and others saying that they are fine.

Thanks in advance.

I assumed he was referring to PS2 games, but if not, carry on...

It's totally true if the OP is discussing ps2 games, which he appears to be

You guys might be right (nezben and onslaught). I'm not sure what console's games he is asking about.

Considering he mentioned Chrono Cross, maybe he is referring to PS1 games.

PS1 BC of the 80GB model is actually similar to the 40GB one so just follow that list. Having done a test of the titles I own recently, the ones that are emulated best are on the PSN (as long as it's a NTSC version). No scanning issues, blacks are accurate and the audio volume/stereo separation is as good as the original hardware.

Sorry, I was busy and didn't see the replies.

Yes, I know that I lack PS2 compatibility, so I was just asking about PS1 games. Even though mine "supports PS1 games" I have seen that a couple of the games I picked up on the cheap don't work well. So I was wondering before I pick up more PS1 titles on the cheap if there was an easy reference somewhere on the web that wasn't the Sony website.

Is MSX2 right that the 40gb model is basically the same BC as the 80gb? If so, then can anyone say how accurate the BC information on the Sony site is? The wiki entry for the 360 has seemed to be pretty accurate but I am unclear if the Sony site is just some info they put up or is peer contributed. Thanks.

EDIT: Even more specifically, the Sony site does not mention a freezing issue halfway through Chrono Cross that makes it nearly unplayable, whereas many forums reported that it possesses such. Thus, the question about how reliable their website is in your opinions.
