Default Microsoft extends warranty for E74 failures.

http://kotaku.com/5211159/microsoft-...r-e74-failures

So the E74 error message finally gets the RRoD treatment: full 3-year warranty and refunds for those who had their consoles fixed for E74 and paid for it.

The Xbox 360 is simultaneously the best and worst game console out there. At least Microsoft is doing the right thing again... it would have been better if the consoles were more reliable, but they are making things right.

at least they are pretty much admitting E74 is RROD and still happening and doing something about it.

How much did it cost to fix? If this happened to someone at least like twice....it's another little tax refund (April 15th is tomorrow lol)

Microsoft may have made one hell of a lot of mistakes designign the 360's hardware design, but at least they keep doing the right thing and standing by their product. I'm on my third console technically, though I really don't think my second one actually broke. I got a 3 red lights message and freaked out since I had just gotten it back from MS, turned out that all I had to do to fix the second 3 red lights condition was to unplug and replug it. But at the point I figured that out I already had the RMA set up, so I decided f*** it, I'll send it in.

I think my first (original) failure was actually this one. Console never came back to life.

The right thing would have been to fix the issue. Not stick a band-aid on it.

It's more then just RROD and E74.. there are disc read errors, disc scratching issues, noise issues etc...

I love the console's GUI and it's games, but the hardware is a steaming pile of shit.

Maybe I missed something, but isn't that exactly what they did with RRoD? Grant it, they fixed that issue only to be slammed by this new HW failure message, but I'm sure they'll fix this eventually too. And to be sure, since E74 was showing up prior to the last few console revisions (again, this is the message I got on my original console) it's not like MS just turned off the 3 red lights and had the machine display E74 instead. They appear to be two difference failure conditions.

Noise issues... That seems to be a crap shoot, my last console was actually extrodenarly quiet, my latest one has a bit of a noisy drive so I need to keep the volume up while playing games. To be sure the drive noise is dissapointing, but at the very least I typically do like having the vol up while gaming anyway.
