Default MAG goes the way of the FPS, confirmed in Game Informer

Quote:
Zipper has abandoned the third-person perspective ship for the highly-anticipated MAG Massive Action Game title. Their new choice of perspectival weapon: FPS. This was the information revealed in the latest Game Informer issue on the game.

"We looked at the number of different camera options for the game, and settled on FPS primarily because of the scale of MAG," Andy Bodewin of Zipper Interactive remarked.

Some of our previous games were third-person, and it was well suited to [managing] teammates and AI quadrates as well. But for a game of this size we really wanted to make it the most immersive and the most intense large-scale game that we could. There's really no better way to do that than to sink you right into the action and look at things through a first-person perspective.

This sure sounds like a very welcomed treat, especially for FPS fans. We'll keep you posted on more details on MAG as they come.
It was a more interesting game to me being a TPS. It now might have a harder time standing out, IMO.

Supposedly gameplay is going to be similar to SOCOM. I don't know if that is good or bad.

Koller was able to talk a bit about its gameplay, likening it to a SOCOM iteration in the sense that "you’re maybe commanding the SEALs, and someone else has the Rangers, and the Green Berets, and so on."

I think a TPS would be more fun, but an FPS can have more appeal. Assuming it can stand out. I'm not too interested though in the game.

I like third person much better. Seems like you can get a better sense of what is going on. Around you. Sometimes, trying to be realistic is a bad thing and for this game, I am sure that graphically and technically it will suffer because of how many people it is trying to support at once. Because of this graphical/technical shortcoming, I wish they would just stick to third person. First person only works if you can truly immerse people, Killzone 2 did this well. But without the graphics/technical capability, the first person just cant be THAT immersive. FPS is a bad choice here.

I just wish they provided the choice toggle FPS on and off. I agree, sometimes TPS just works out better. Also just tired of FPS all the time.

I get sick if I play a FPS more than a half hour.

I will very likely not buy this if it IS an FPS. There are too many other good non-fps games coming out that I can take my time with. The FPS thing is starting to get old.

And my interest in this game completely dies.

This doesn't bother me, but that said, I'm not getting excited over this release and will likely only look into it if I hear enough great things and see very positive reviews.
